What is IELTS
The term “IELTS” is an acronym for the International English Language Testing System. It is a standardized international test designed to measure English language proficiency for non-native speakers. Widely utilized for assessing English language levels among applicants for education, immigration, and employment in English-speaking countries, the IELTS certificate is regarded as the most recognized and reliable qualification globally.
The first version of the IELTS exam was launched in 1980, and it has undergone numerous developmental stages to reach a peak of reliability and recognition worldwide by the early 2000s. Now, after 44 years since its inception, the IELTS exam is used as a benchmark in 140 countries and is accepted by over 11,000 organizations, including 3,500 institutions within the United States.
Today, the IELTS system and everything related to it is overseen by a consortium of institutions, which includes Cambridge Assessment English, IELTS Australia, the British Council, and IDP Education.
The Types of IELTS Exam
The IELTS exam is generally divided into two methods
The Academic IELTS and the General IELTS share most of their details; however, the primary distinction lies in the writing component. The most significant difference for students, though, is in the final evaluation. While semi-formal language is acceptable in the General IELTS, success in the Academic IELTS necessitates the use of high-level academic language.
Academic Part
This section is required for those wishing to pursue academic studies abroad, whether at universities, institutes, or other educational establishments.
General Training
This refers to training for workers, employees, professionals, and individuals seeking to immigrate or work in an English-speaking country.
Course Plans
The IELTS course begins with a focus on receptive skills, specifically listening and reading, before transitioning to productive skills, which include speaking and writing, in the second half of the course. The course is structured to provide two hours of instruction each day, over four days per week, for a total duration of four weeks.
The overall total for the IELTS course in Muscat is thirty-two hours, spread across sixteen days. Additionally, students have the option to participate in two extra days (totaling four hours) for a final mock exam, designed to assess both receptive and productive skills using the same standards as the actual IELTS examination. This structure ensures comprehensive preparation for students as they work toward achieving their language proficiency goals.
Course Methodology
The methodology employed in the IELTS course at Code International is known as TTT, which stands for Test, Teach, Test. The essence of this approach is that new students are initially tested to determine their proficiency level. Following this assessment, course content tailored to their current stage is presented. After this teaching phase, students are tested again before progressing to the next level. This systematic approach ensures that learners receive instruction suited to their needs and can effectively gauge their progress throughout the course.
Course Content
The IELTS course generally covers four essential skills that all learners must master: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Experts categorize these into receptive skills (listening and reading) and productive skills (writing and speaking). Naturally, receptive skills come before productive skills, as we listen before we respond and read before we write. The four skills are taught over a span of sixteen study days, with each skill receiving instruction over four days.

About The Official Exam
In many cases, some students may require strengthening a specific language skill and therefore do not need to complete the entire course. To accommodate this, Kood Group offers the flexibility to enroll in any of the four skills that comprise the course, allowing students to attend the designated week according to the course schedule.
In addition, Code Group provides a package of supplementary sessions focusing on particular language skills, such as grammar, phrasing, and other specialized areas.
To obtain a globally recognized IELTS certificate, candidates must take the exam at one of the accredited centers. The British Council is the most prominent and widely available organization with centers around the world; however, many officially licensed entities also conduct the exam in various countries.
While there is an option for an online test that closely resembles the paper-based version, the virtual exam does not offer a speaking skills assessment. In any case, candidates must attend the speaking test in person at the accredited center.
The listening, reading, and writing tests are conducted on the same day within a few hours, whereas the speaking test is always scheduled on a separate day.
